The surgeon
Prof. Kadıoğlu is a world-class implanter with more than 2,000 penile implant cases across 25 years of practice, and one of the most well-known and well-respected surgeons in Europe for the treatment of Peyronie’s disease.
He is the head of the Division of Andrology at the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, and works as a clinician, academic and researcher across sexual medicine, infertility and prostatic diseases. His 209 articles have been published in peer-reviewed journals and have received 3,734 citations.
In theatre
More than 2,000 penile implants across 25 years means the difficult version of an operation is rarely a first encounter: a corpus scarred by priapism or by a previous device, an abdomen where the reservoir has no obvious space, a Peyronie’s curve that has to be straightened at the same sitting as the cylinders go in.
Prosthetic implantation is also a team operation performed to a fixed sequence — antiseptic preparation, antibiotic prophylaxis, a no-touch protocol that keeps the device off skin, then sizing, and only then closure. A rehearsed sequence is easier to hold to than an improvised one, and infection is the complication that sequence exists to prevent.

The qualification
FECSM stands for Fellow of the European Committee of Sexual Medicine — a prestigious certification awarded to medical professionals who have completed specialised training and passed an examination in sexual medicine.
The examination covers conditions including erectile dysfunction, sexual dysfunction and related disorders in both men and women.
In urology, doctors holding an FECSM qualification have demonstrated advanced knowledge and expertise in sexual health, which makes them highly qualified to diagnose and treat conditions such as erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease, and difficulties with libido or sexual performance. The qualification is particularly valuable for urologists who sub-specialise in men’s health and sexual medicine.
For patients, choosing a urologist who holds the FECSM title is a way of confirming that the doctor has completed rigorous training and is recognised by the European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM).

Guidelines & research
Prof. Kadıoğlu is a member of the guideline committee for sexual and reproductive health of the European Association of Urology — the panel whose recommendations shape how erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease and male infertility are treated across Europe.

He took part in the educational programme on sexual medicine at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine in 1991, and on male infertility at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 1994.

Awards & recognition
Prof. Kadıoğlu was deemed worthy of the Distinguished Career Award at the congress held in Dubai from 10 to 14 November 2021 by the World Association of Urology — the Société Internationale d’Urologie.
Ateş Kadıoğlu ranked 51st, with 144 studies and 3,162 citations, in the list of 100 Turkish people who steered Turkish science in 2018, compiled by Turkishtime magazine.
Teaching & international faculty
Beyond his own operating list, Prof. Kadıoğlu trains other urologists — including senior European colleagues — through the education programmes of the EAU, ESAU, ESGURS, SIU, SMSNA and the University of California.
European Association of Urology
Prof. Kadıoğlu takes part in the education programme of the European Association of Urology, training leading European colleagues and other urologists in prosthetic and reconstructive andrology. SIU 2022 · Istanbul
Prof. Kadıoğlu took part in the Men’s Health Panel at SIU 2022 in Istanbul alongside Dr Faysal Yafi (University of California) and Dr Koenraad van Renterghem (UZ Leuven, Belgium).
ESAU & ESGURS · Florence
Prof. Kadıoğlu served as lecturer and trainer at the joint meeting of the European School of Andrological Urology (ESAU) and the European Genito-Urinary Reconstructive Surgeons (ESGURS) in Florence in November 2023, where he presented on managing intra-operative error during penile implant procedures.
SMSNA
The SMSNA congress is a leading event in the field of sexual medicine. Prof. Kadıoğlu attended as session chair and speaker, contributing a lecture on the effects of surgery on orgasmic function to the ISSM session on orgasm disorders.
UROwebinar · 14 November 2023
At the UROwebinar held by the European Association of Urology on 14 November 2023, Prof. Kadıoğlu joined an international panel discussing new treatments for erectile dysfunction — including stem cell therapy, extracorporeal shockwave treatment and platelet-rich plasma — together with the medical treatment of Peyronie’s disease.
Global Andrology Forum
Prof. Kadıoğlu was honoured to chair the newly created Senior Advisory Board (SAB) of the rapidly growing Global Andrology Forum.
University of California · January 2023
Prof. Kadıoğlu attended the Men’s Health Course held by the University of California on 28 and 29 January 2023 as a trainer, teaching in the section on orchalgia, chronic pelvic pain syndrome and penile fracture.
Away from the clinic
Ateş Kadıoğlu is married and has two children. He speaks English and German in addition to Turkish, and consultations with international patients are conducted directly rather than through a third party wherever language allows.
