Planning your treatment

The journey, from first message to the twelve-month review

Treatment abroad goes wrong in the gaps — the unbooked transfer, the consultation nobody interpreted, the follow-up that quietly ended at the airport. This is how each of those gaps is closed.

  1. 01 Before you commit to anything

    Case review

The first exchange is clinical, not commercial.

You send your history through the case review form: how long the problem has been present, what has already been tried, your current medications and relevant conditions, and — where they exist — previous operative reports, device cards and imaging. Photographs are only requested where the deformity itself needs assessing, and never stored beyond your clinical file.

A urologist reads it. Within two working days you receive a written reply setting out what we think is going on, which treatment we would recommend, what it would involve, and an itemised quotation. Where surgery is not indicated — or not yet — the reply says so and explains what should happen instead.

    • No charge and no obligation at this stage
    • Read by a clinician, not by a sales desk
    • Discreet correspondence with a neutral sender name on request
  2. 02 Meeting your surgeon

    Video consultation

Thirty minutes with the person who would actually operate.

The consultation covers the diagnosis, the operation, realistic outcomes and the specific complications that apply to your case. An interpreter joins where you prefer to speak in your own language, and a partner is welcome to be present — partner satisfaction is a documented outcome measure in prosthetic surgery, and involving them early tends to improve it.

You are encouraged to bring a written list of questions. Most men have several they have never asked anyone.

    • The surgeon who consults is the surgeon who operates
    • Interpreter available in six languages as standard
    • Nothing is booked or charged during the consultation itself
  3. 03 Confirming the plan

    Dates, deposit and preparation

A deposit reserves theatre time and, for implant surgery, the device itself.

Once you decide to proceed, we confirm surgical dates in writing and send a preparation pack: the tests we need completed before you travel, medications to stop and when, guidance on smoking and glycaemic control, and an invitation letter for your visa application if you need one.

Only now should you book flights — and we ask that you book a changeable return ticket, because the fit-to-fly review occasionally recommends an additional day or two.

    • Pre-operative tests can usually be done at home and emailed
    • Invitation letter for visa purposes issued on request
    • Balance settled at the clinic before the procedure, by card or transfer
  4. 04 Arrival

    Landing in Istanbul

You are met inside the terminal, not at a kerbside.

Your patient assistant meets you at arrivals with your name, escorts you to a private vehicle and takes you to the hotel. They give you a printed schedule for the whole visit, their personal mobile number, and the clinic’s out-of-hours line.

Nothing clinical happens on arrival day. Travel is tiring and pre-operative assessment goes better when you have slept.

    • Meet and greet inside the terminal at both Istanbul airports
    • Hotel within roughly fifteen minutes of the clinic
    • Your companion shares the room at no additional cost
  5. 05 In the clinic

    Assessment and consent

The workup is repeated in person, on purpose.

Examination, bloods, ECG and anaesthetic review are completed the day before surgery. For implant patients this is when sizing and device selection are finalised; for Peyronie’s patients it is when curvature is measured under induced erection with a goniometer rather than estimated from a photograph.

Consent is taken in your own language with an interpreter present, and you keep a copy. If the assessment changes the plan, we tell you before anything proceeds — including if it means recommending against surgery after you have already flown.

    • Same-day laboratory results
    • Written consent in your language, with a copy for you
    • Any change of plan discussed and re-quoted before proceeding
  6. 06 Surgery

    The day itself

A JCI-accredited hospital with full anaesthetic and intensive care support.

Admission is in the morning. Your assistant stays with you through admission and is there when you come back to the ward. Your companion can remain in the room overnight.

Recovery observations, analgesia and antibiotics follow a written protocol. The surgeon reviews you the same evening, and again before discharge the following day.

    • Private room for one night in most pathways
    • Companion may stay overnight in the room
    • Surgeon review on the evening of surgery and again before discharge
  7. 07 Recovery

    Back at the hotel

The quiet part of the trip, with daily contact.

You return to the hotel with a written medication plan and a schedule of what to expect on each day. Swelling and bruising peak around day three and then settle — knowing that in advance prevents most of the alarm it otherwise causes.

Your assistant checks in daily and accompanies you to the wound review at the clinic. Short walks are encouraged; lifting, cycling and long periods of sitting are not.

    • Daily contact from your assistant, and 24-hour access by WhatsApp
    • Clinic wound review before departure
    • Pharmacy runs and hotel logistics handled for you
  8. 08 Going home

    Fit-to-fly review and documents

You leave with the paperwork any urologist anywhere can act on.

A final clinic review checks the wound, confirms you are fit to fly and issues written clearance. You are given your English-language operative report, discharge summary, device serial numbers and card, laboratory and imaging results, prescriptions, and the follow-up schedule.

Compression stockings and in-flight guidance are provided. Long-haul passengers receive a specific mobility and hydration plan.

    • Operative report and discharge summary in English
    • Device card and serial numbers registered in your name
    • Written fit-to-fly clearance
  9. 09 The first year

    Follow-up from home

Included in every package, not an optional extra.

Video reviews are scheduled at the points where they matter — device activation at four to six weeks, then three months and twelve months, adjusted to your procedure. Between them, your coordinator remains reachable and routes clinical questions directly to the surgical team.

Where local care is needed we liaise with your own doctor and supply the full operative record. Where a problem needs our surgical correction, the revision terms set out in your treatment agreement before travel apply.

    • Device activation taught by video at four to six weeks
    • Reviews at three and twelve months
    • Direct access to your surgical team in between

Practical matters

The things people forget to ask about

Visas and entry

Many nationalities enter Türkiye visa-free or on an e-visa obtained online in minutes. We issue an invitation letter confirming your appointment dates where a consulate asks for one. Check current requirements for your passport before booking flights.

Travelling alone

Entirely workable, and a substantial share of our patients do it. The patient assistant exists precisely for this — they attend every appointment, handle every transfer and are reachable at any hour.

Discretion

Correspondence can use a neutral subject line and sender name. Hotel bookings carry no clinical reference. We publish no testimonials or patient photography of any kind.

Insurance

We require every patient to hold travel insurance that explicitly covers planned surgery abroad and medical repatriation. Standard holiday policies generally exclude elective treatment — check the wording rather than the summary.

Money

A deposit confirms your date; the balance is settled at the clinic by card or bank transfer before the procedure. Cash payment is never required and should never be requested of you.

If something changes

Dates can be moved. If a clinical finding at assessment changes the plan, we discuss it and re-quote before proceeding — and if the right answer is to send you home without operating, that is what we will recommend.

Next step

Send your case for review before you book anything

A urologist reads your history, medication list and any previous operative reports, and replies within two working days with an opinion, the likely pathway and an itemised quotation. No charge, no obligation, and a straight answer if surgery is not what you need.
